One way you can show your support for the Bandaged Bear Appeal this March is by volunteering to host a Bunnings BBQ and cake stall at your local store. Various locations are available right across NSW to give everyone, including those who live rurally, an opportunity to get involved.

Each host will be able to choose whether they want their fundraising to go to a specific department or otherwise, to where the Hospital needs it most.

All available dates and locations are listed below.

If you are interested in hosting a BBQ, please email Katrina Topfer with your name and contact number as well as your preferred date and location.

Please note, Public Liability Insurance cover will be provided.

What does it involve?

Hosting a Bunnings BBQ is a very easy and simple way to help raise money for the Bandaged Bear Appeal. All it involves is getting a group of volunteers together for one day to cook and sell sausage sandwiches, cakes and drinks to the community.

Does it run all day?

Each store will have their own guidelines but generally BBQ groups need to be ready to serve shortly after opening and have enough volunteers to cover the majority of the day.

How many volunteers do I need?

Volunteer numbers can vary and ultimately depend on the group. Generally, a BBQ requires five to six people at any given time and shifts average between 90 minutes to two hours. This ensures there are enough people at all times to cook the BBQ, assemble and serve food, handle money and serve drinks.  Please note, all volunteers must be at least 15 years of age.

What is provided?

Bunnings will supply:

  • Stainless steel barbecue unit
  • Bunnings corporate gazebo
  • Sand bags (for gazebo)
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Blackboard (display for price and group)
  • Gas
  • Fresh water filled container
  • Blow mould trestle table
  • Bucket of water (for cleaning concrete pad)

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead will supply Public Liability Insurance cover.

What do I need to bring?

Volunteer groups will need to organise their own:

  • Sausages, bread, onion and condiments
  • Napkins, garbage bags and condiment bottles
  • Aprons, disposable gloves and paper towel
  • Cooking utensils (tongs, spatula, knives)
  • Tin spray on cooking oil, Degreaser, hard broom
  • Cash Float (Recommend $100)
  • Cleaning equipment and detergents
  • Appropriate food grade storage containers
  • Coolers with sufficient ice to maintain temperature of raw product below 5 degrees at all times
