Every child wants a chance to run, play and lead a full life.
Here at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, we help seriously ill children achieve a better life.
You can help sick kids too.
There're lots of ways to be involved.
- You can support the hospital through fundraising at school or university
- You can come on a hospital tour and cheer up some of our patients
- You can participate in one of our fun events
Primary school students
Talk to your teacher and tell them you want your class—or entire school—to raise money for the hospital. Perhaps there's someone in your school who suffers from an illness or medical condition and has visited our hospital for treatment. Why not suggest to your teacher that the school raise money for that condition or disease.
Ask your schoolmates what sort of event they want to hold, and remember, it should be something everyone can enjoy. BBQs and cake stalls are popular and easy to organise, but there are other ideas too such as charging everyone to wear mufti for a day, or a week!
Regardless of which plan you decide on, approaching your teacher is the first step in getting it organised.
Secondary school students
Your school might already be involved in fundraising as a community participation initiative. If that’s the case, why not suggest the school direct their efforts to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Lots of schools target their fundraising to purchase equipment or by supporting a particular ward or service.
The Student Representative Council can help you in getting a fundraising event off the ground. Don’t forget to approach the Parent Teacher body as well—having widespread support for any fundraising event will make it more enjoyable and successful.
If you are planning to use social media to promote the event, you’ll need to talk to the school and follow their guidelines. We have hashtags that you can use, as well as a Facebook page, and Twitter and Insta accounts.
So get in touch in the planning stage and we'll help you coordinate this.
Once you are studying at the tertiary-level life suddenly opens up. You can take control of your fundraising and coordinate your events through clubs, sports teams and organisations at your university. Use your social networks, friends and family to spread the word about your event, and use our hashtags and keep our crowd in the loop.
Regardless of what course you're studying, you're able to direct your fundraising to a particular area of interest within the hospital. You might like to fund equipment purchase, or dedicate your hard-earned cash to a ward, treatment or research area.
If you're strapped for time, why not join in one of our events?
