Harnessing a good idea
Ideas can be small and simple or they can be grand. What makes an idea successful is the research behind it. Float your idea with your family and friends and then decide what types of resources you’ll need to make it a success.
Form a reliable team to assist you in planning your event. Keep members motivated and committed by assigning them tasks.
Think about what you want to achieve and set your targets. How much would you like to raise? How many people will you invite to participate/attend your event? Will this estimated number of attendees cover your costs and raise funds too? How can you gain the support of local business? Can you ask them to donate prizes or sponsor your event? Don’t forget to also include smaller fundraising activities within your main event to maximise your fundraising efforts.
Think about the best date to have your event. Try to avoid competing with other local and community functions. Why not think about ‘piggy-backing’ on an existing event? Agree on a realistic planning timeline by working backwards from the intended date of your event. If you run short of days, you may need to rethink the date of your event or even the size of your team.
After all your planning and hard work, don’t forget to publicise and promote your event. Put up posters, send out flyers and tell all your friends! Working out your budget is essential to ensure that you reach your target. Think of ways of keeping costs down by asking for donated goods and services. By getting as much as you can for free, you keep your costs from sky-rocketing and also raise much-needed funds for the Hospital. Whatever you do receive, don’t forget to acknowledge it. This may take the form of giving free tickets to your event, a mention of the company on the day or placing their logo on your flyers.
