On Monday 17 May our first-ever Sydney Sick Kids Appeal will officially launch and we’re calling on supporters across the state to help light up dark times for sick kids.
This tax time we’re making it easier for the community to help provide world-class care to sick and injured kids. So the next time a kid in your street needs urgent care, you can feel good knowing you’ve already helped them out.
Over the next six weeks, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation is aiming to raise an ambitious $3,000,000 for Sydney’s network of world-leading children’s hospitals and paediatric services.
Every dollar raised will help fund more ground-breaking research, cutting-edge technology and world-class care across The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, Bear Cottage, Kids Research and NETS (Newborn and paediatric Emergency Transport Service). By spreading your impact far and wide, we’re helping ensure every child in NSW has access to the best possible care - when and where they need it.
Brooke, mum of Jacob, 8 and Riley, 5 knows the importance of this support all too well. Both her children still receive ongoing care at two of Sydney’s children’s hospitals.
As a baby, Jacob was diagnosed with an extremely severe form of epilepsy known as Lennox–Gastaut syndrome at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Hi condition has no cure and means Jacob can sometimes experience hundreds of seizures a day.
Managing Jacob’s condition has always been hard so when Brooke’s little girl, Riley, was diagnosed with rare kidney cancer, the family turned to the specialist medical team at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.
Even though Riley is now in remission, hospital visits are still a routine part of their lives, with Jacob’s condition requiring ongoing monitoring and specialist care.
“..I will always be grateful to the staff at both hospitals who were our source of light and hope during our darkest days. It’s thanks to the doctors, nurses, specialists, ward staff, music therapists and volunteers that we’ve managed to stay positive throughout this journey.” Brooke, Jacob & Riley’s mum.
Support today, will make a family’s hospital experience tomorrow that little bit brighter.
The Sydney Sick Kids Appeal will culminate with Sydney Sick Kids Day on Thursday 24 June, where clubs, train stations, local businesses, schools and corporate partners will rally behind sick kids by taking over the city to raise vital funds and put smiles on the faces of patients and hospital staff.
