For 10 years, Wei has brought heart and soul to our Sunny’s Café as a sous chef in the kitchen. Working behind-the-scenes to cook delicious food for some very special customers, it’s his passion for raising vital funds for sick kids that makes him a changemaker.

Located inside Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, Wei has helped serve thousands of staff, patients and families at Sunny’s Café over the years – offering a friendly smile and home-cooked meal when and where it’s needed. Wei says knowing that the profits of Sunny’s Café goes back to the frontline of children’s healthcare is what inspires him every day.

Sunny’s Café team celebrate the festive season (2022).

“All of the staff at Sunny’s Café are passionate about our jobs. Knowing our hard work is raising funds for Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation and making a difference to the lives of sick kids is very rewarding.”

In 2012, Wei first started at Sunny’s Café as a barista while completing his apprenticeship as a qualified commercial chef. A year later when an opening in the kitchen became available, Wei jumped at the chance to start introducing some of his favourites to the menu.

Wei’s famous laksa, Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice and Japanese fried chicken have all become talking points at the hospital

“I always try to offer a small piece of comfort to the staff and families and kids treated at the Hospital. After a long night or day on the ward, we try and make their day that little bit brighter with a hot coffee and nutritious meal.”

Funds raised through Sunny's Cafe help provide the best possible care to sick kids, in the form of more groundbreaking research, cutting-edge technology and positive patient experiences like child-life and music therapy.

Our heartfelt thanks to Wei for continuing to go all in for kids’ health, each and every day. Congratulations on reaching this special milestone.

To support the incredible work of Sunny’s Café, check out their delicious range of meals and treats next time you’re visiting Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.
